Wines: Miradero -
2000 Sonoma County, Merlot
The Miradero 2000 Sonoma County
Merlot is comprised of fruit from both the estate
Charles Creek Vineyard and Alexander Valley.
Alexander Valley produces luscious Merlot. This
portion of Sonoma County receives less coastal fog
and is, on average, ten degrees warmer than other
Sonoma County regions. These warmer days produce
ripe Merlot fruit with flavors that are deeply rich
and highly developed.
The Charles Creek Vineyard sits at an elevation of
800 feet in the Sonoma Mountain range; just below
the Jack London State Historical Park, and just
above the Sonoma Valley floor. This is the same area
where Jack London was inspired to write…
"The grapes on a score of rolling hills are red
with autumn flame. Across Sonoma Mountain wisps of
sea fog are stealing. The afternoon sun smolders in
the drowsy sky. I have everything to make me glad I
am alive. I am filled with dreams and mysteries. I
am all sun and air and sparkle. I am vitalized,
organic."
The season for the 2000 Miradero Sonoma County
Merlot began with bud break at the normal time in
March. With the exception of some unseasonable rain
and chilly weather, the temperature range and degree
days were almost textbook. Its full maturation was
achieved when picked, because the fruit had
wonderful hang time on the vine.

Winemaker Notes
The 2000 Miradero Sonoma County Merlot exhibits
silky qualities of blackberries, cherries, and light
strawberry suggestions, with vanilla that lingers
and grows on the palate long after the wine has been
sipped. This wine is ready to drink now, or can be
cellared for several years. With proper cellaring,
it should develop nicely in the bottle, and keep its
lovely structure at least until opened in 2005.
