Wines: Las Patolitas -
2001 Sangiacomo Vineyard, Carneros
Chardonnay
The Las Patolitas
Chardonnay has exceptional fruit from an
extraordinary vineyard, Sangiacomo. One of
California's greatest, most historic vineyards,
it is located in the Carneros region of Sonoma.
Our 2001 Sangiacomo Vineyards Chardonnay is pure
fruit, and the honest expression of this one
location that is consistently celebrated for so many
award-winning wines.
The Sangiacomo family has been farming and caring
for this land since they first moved into the Sonoma
Valley in 1927. Their AXR rootstock was planted some
25 years ago. Soils are gravelly, riparian clay
loam, characteristic of finer vineyards in the
Carneros region. Breezy, cool conditions from San
Pablo Bay, make this an ideal growing area for cool
climate grapes like Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and
certain Merlot clones. Since the Sangiacomo
Vineyards receive early morning fog and warm days
throughout the growing season, these vineyards are
usually harvested in mid-October, later than most
regions for Chardonnay.

Winemaker Notes
The aroma of the Las Patolitas 2001 Sangiacomo
Vineyard Carneros Chardonnay is bright and fruit
centered with inviting notes of caramelized apple,
pear, and lemon. Also on the nose are cinnamon,
nutmeg and butterscotch, all exhibiting the
distinctive nature of the Carneros region. The Las
Patolitas 2001 Sangiacomo Vineyard Carneros
Chardonnay is a true example of Nouveau Chardonnay,
which is characterized by rich fruit flavors that
exhibit crisp, beautifully balanced acidity. All
these nuances linger delicately long after the wine
is enjoyed. Firm acidity keeps this wine refreshing
and bright.
Co-proprietor Gerry Brinton suggests that The Las
Patolitas 2001 Sangiacomo Vineyard Carneros
Chardonnay is best paired with chicken, fish,
vegetables, and salads with a slightly sweet
dressing.
