Art & Wine in Sonoma;
Local Artist Erika Schmitt at the
Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room & Gallery

SONOMA, California (Dec 1, 2008) –Unique small works in paint and collage by Sonoma Artist Erika Schmitt will be on display at the Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery from December 1st, 2008 through February of 2009. A reception, with cheeses and (of course) Charles Creek wines, will provide an opportunity for the public to meet the Artist on Friday, December 12th from 5 to 7 PM. There is no charge.

            Born in Delaware, Ms. Schmitt earned her BA at Kurtztown University in Pennsylvania before relocating to Sonoma in the mid 1990s. Her earlier work crafting one of a kind, archival handmade books integrating beautiful papers and collage, which was her principal business for seven years, led her to exhibit in both the Smithsonian Craft Show and the Philadelphia Craft Show.

Ms.Schmitt’s work incorporates guauche and collage elements such as exotic papers, book text and old maps as well as figurative images. The small scale “…was my desire to be a whisper as opposed to a shout”’ says Schmitt, “If and when one got close to the image, I hoped they would find that there was more to the message than they thought. All one needed to do was make the effort to come in close and take a look”.

         Of course, the full experience at Charles Creek is to enjoy a viewing of the artworks adorning the walls while sampling the new and current releases from the winery. The multiple Gold medal winning 2006 Chardonnay “Las Patolitas” will be among the offerings, along with the Best of Class & Double Gold medal winning (98 points-California State Fair) Syrah blend “Muy Bonito”.

    Specializing in high quality Chardonnay, Merlot, and Cabernet Sauvignon (among other varietals) from great vineyard sources in the Sonoma and Napa valleys, Charles Creek produces wines that are food friendly, fruit driven, and easily paired with the courses of a meal. In 2005 the winery opened a Tasting Room, situated in a charming 1890s era storefront on the historic Sonoma Plaza. In addition to wine tasting and sales, the Tasting Room also provides space to show the work of local artists. The Charles Creek Tasting Room and Gallery exhibit changes regularly, showcasing emerging talent as well as established artists.

The Charles Creek Vineyard Tasting Room and Gallery, open seven days a week from
11 a.m. – 6 p.m., is located at 483 First St. West, Sonoma, 95476.  For more information, call (707) 935-3848 or email alan@charlescreek.com

While somewhat limited in terms of space, the charming atmosphere of our 1890s era storefront is remarkably conducive to the showing of these talented, award winning (and arguably local) painters.

What better way to view these creative works than to browse the room with a sip or two of delicious, award winning Charles Creek Vineyard wines?

Tasting Room Manager Alan Wastell and his stalwart crew look forward to hosting you.
